The Kymara Gallery News: Charles Gatewood: "7 Delightful Sins,"
Charles Gatewood: "7 Delightful Sins," featuring forty years of provocative and erotic images by internationally renowned photographer Charles Gatewood, will be presented by the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art and The Kymara Gallery, Nov. 18-20. The exhibit highlights compelling vintage and contemporary prints of nudes, fetish, and counter culture subjects captured during the photographer's 45 year career as "family photographer of America's Sexual Underground." Currently, Gatewood is being followed as an inspiration for a new generation of artistic movement known as "Ante-Art" Included in the exhibit will be a selection of the photographer's seminal images of beat poet William S. Burroughs and unusual images of early Wall Street. Gatewood, anthropologist turned photojournalist and fine art photographer, is the author of a dozen photography books and was responsible for several early "Rolling Stone" covers as well as the 1970's "Wall Street" series. He began meticulously capturing the evolution of the modern fetish and counter culture in the mid-1960's, amassing an historically significant archive. Much of the work on display is of unseen images of the New York City's deep underground scene of the 1960's- 1970's. A free opening celebration will take place on November 18th from 6 to 9 PM at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art Annex, 127-B Prince St, NY (corner Wooster and Prince Sts.) There will be a very rare opportunity to meet the photographer during a salon presentation and vintage book signing. Very unusual performance by "Alexcalibur" and catering by Kymara Happenings, The show continues on Saturday, Nov.19th and 20th from 1 to 6 PM. In the true spirit of a Happening, spontaneous performance is encouraged on the 19th and the 20th.More news here

The Kymara Gallery News: "The Anté Art Show"

The Anté Art movement keeps growing and so does the Kymara Gallery and its associated projects.
Anté Art is a new artistic movement, encompassing visual art, music and performance, rooted in the early days of the Underground and the early Avant Garde. Taking dadaism as an example, the twenty first century Anté Artists have revolted against traditional art and Western Society to create new forms of artistic expression and a new associated lifestyle and culture.
This rapidly growing trend has been influenced by The Black Mountain College and such figures as John Cage and Merce Cunningham. Anté Art is based on the artist's own ideas and techniques. They do not work within the confines of academia or in fear of art critics. Art is created for Art's sake and is brought to its basic and purest form. There are no constraints such as religion or sexual orientation. The term Anté Art was created by Billy Name, Kymara Lonergan and Milo Rock, who identified the initial group of Anté Artists, each of whom exemplified this new trend through their work. This group was introduced during the historic photo shoot by Billy Name and Anton Perich at The Chelsea Hotel, in March of 2010, and was comprised of sculptor Fernando Carpaneda, bassist Milo Rock, punk rock legend and artist Jayne County, film maker, actress and singer Ruby Lynn Reyner, drummer and artist Prairie Prince, photographer Anton Perich and photo and installation artist Kymara Lonergan and photographer Ian Couch. Since then the movement has increased in popularity, as more artists have been drawn to the concept. Billy Name and some other original members have moved on to other projects, but the movement continues to grow and flourish with support from the surrealist community lead by Milo Rock, Fernando Carpaneda and Kymara Lonergan. A museum of Anté Art is being planned. More news here
